Sales Tax Override

There are times that customers will be tax-exempt, have a reduced tax rate, or your area may have a tax-free holiday. Users can choose to override a customer's tax amount at the ticket level or by waiving taxes on specific ticket items.

Tax Overrides at the Ticket Level

1. Create a ticket in RepairQ. If this is a Quick Sale ticket, in the "Customer & Billing Agent" section select Attach Customer.

2. Search for an existing customer to add to the ticket. If this is a new customer, you can create a new profile by selecting +New Customer.

3. In the "Customer & Billing Agent" section, check the box next to "Tax Override." In the "Tax Percentage" field, type in the new tax rate assigned to all items on the ticket.

6. On the "Item Overrides" pop-up, type an amount in the "Taxable Amount" field. This amount is equal to what dollar amount taxes will apply. If no taxes will be applied to this item, then you would type zero in the taxable amount field, since taxes are being applied to zero dollars of the unit price. Then save your settings.

Example of a partial tax reduction: In this instance, you have a 10% tax rate for an item on your ticket. If the customer was responsible for paying the taxes on only $5 of the price, then you would type "5" in the taxable amount field. The tax rate of 10% will only apply towards $5 of the item, so the tax will only be $0.50 for the line item.
