PAX S300 NFC Application Update

Bluefin/PAX S300 Version .08E Update

This article is only applicable if you have received the .08E update from Bluefin/PAX.

Once you have been enrolled in the update process, do NOT process any transactions on the device the morning of the update.

This article walks through the steps you need to follow in order to receive the NFC update and get your PAX S300 back up and running afterwards. You will only need to follow this process once you have received confirmation from RepairQ and/or Bluefin that the NFC application update has been pushed to your PAX S300. If you experience any issues throughout the process, please contact Bluefin Technical Support at 1-800-675-6573 option 2.

Ensure your PAX S300 is plugged into an active ethernet connection and power supply. 

  1. VERY IMPORTANT: batch out the device before proceeding
    1. Hold down the Function key and press 1 to go to the Menu
    2. Enter the password. The default password is today's or tomorrow's date in this format: mmddyyyy)
    3. Arrow down one and select "1.System Settings"
    4. Select "4. Database"
    5. Enter the password. The default password is today's or tomorrow's date in this format: mmddyyyy)
    6. Select "1. Clear Database"
    7. Select "1. Yes"
    8. If there are any transactions on the device, select "1. All". If not, it will display "Database Cleared".

  2. Power cycle the device: unplug the power cable then plug it back in. The update will be applied upon startup, and it will cycle through the update steps. This will take about 2-4 minutes, depending on your internet connection. Once complete, the device will power cycle and then display “Error Lookup DNS Resolve EXT”. This is normal, don't panic.

  3. Next you will need to force a full download of the latest PAX application. Follow these steps to complete:
    1. Power off terminal by unplugging the power supply.
    2. Power on terminal by plugging the power supply back in.
    3. During the "SELF-TEST" (displayed on the screen), press the [MENU] key on the screen.
    4. From the menu that is displayed, choose "4-RemoteDownload" (press the 4 key)
    5. Choose option "1. New Download" (press the 1 key).
    6. Choose the communications method option "1-TCP" (press the 1 key).
    7. In the remote IP, enter "216.238.144.195" and press the green enter key.
      Note: The period can be entered by pressing [1] followed by [ALPHA] a 5 times. 
    8. Enter "8582" for the port number. Press the green enter key.
    9. If prompted, Choose "[1.] Yes" for DHCP.
    10. Enter the terminal ID 30030030. Press the green enter key.
    11. This process will take about 10 minutes to complete, depending on your internet connection.
    12. Power cycle the device once you see "Download OK! Reboot System". The device may apply other updates upon boot up.
    13. The device should return to the "Protected by Bluefin" screen once complete. If it does not, please contact Bluefin Technical Support at 1-800-675-6573, option 2.

  4. Now we will ensure the device's internet settings are setup correctly. Hold down the Function key and press 1 to go to the Menu 

  5. Enter the password. The default password is today's or tomorrow's date in this format: mmddyyyy)

  6. Arrow down one page to and click Communications.

  7. Enter the device password again. 

  8. Arrow down two pages and select "LAN parameters".

  9. Select "LAN Type"

  10. If the screen displays "LAN Type: 2", select "DHCP" on the screen. If it already displays LAN Type:1, select "Back".

  11. Select the Back button until you are back to the "Protected by Bluefin" screen.

  12. Go back to Step 4 and follow steps 5-11, only this time, select "Static" as the LAN Type.

  13. Power off the device by unplugging the power supply cable from either the wall or the wire harness.

  14. Wait 10 seconds then power back on by plugging it back in.

  15. Press Func and 1 at the same time to get to the menu.

  17. Arrow down one page and click "Communications".

  18. Enter the device password. 

  19. Arrow down three pages and select "LAN parameters".

  20. Select "IP Address"

  21. Write down and if necessary enter the IP address into RepairQ. For more on registering PAX details in RepairQ, check out this article.
     
  22. Press the red cancel button on the PAX device until you are back to the "Protected by Bluefin" screen.

  23. Verify that RepairQ can connect with the PAX Device by performing a test. For more on verifying PAX setup in RepairQ, check out this article. If you perform an Apple Pay Cash test, be sure to enter a very low amount, like $0.01, as it may not be returned.
