Integrated Payments Setup: Configuring a Bluefin PAX D210 Payment Terminal Device

The PAX D210 device has the ability to read EMV chip cards, NFC, magnetic strips, and it has a keypad for keyed entry. It is both EMV and P2PE enabled.

The PAX D210 device must have a 2.4 GHz wireless connection to the internet, and your point of sale terminal must be able to connect to it over your local network.

It is highly recommended that the computer be connected with an ethernet cable to your network

1) Prepare your computer to communicate with the terminal

Before you will be able to communicate securely with your PAX payment device, you must install the device security certificate on each computer/tablet/phone where you will be processing payments.

Installing the security certificate is a quick process that should only take a minute or so to perform, depending on your operating system.

2) Set the Date and Time on your PAX D210

  1. Press the menu button (the button under the Screen_Shot_2018-12-17_at_12.54.40_PM.png symbol.) The PAX screen will ask for a password. The default password is the current date in this format: MM/DD/YYYY. Depending on the time of day and your time zone, the "current date" of the device may either be the previous or next day, so try those if the current date does not work.
  2. Arrow down to System Settings.
  3. Select Date/Time Setup.
  4. The DTS settings will be visible. If any information is incorrect, begin typing in the numbers for the date, and it will go into edit mode.
  5. Fill out the correct information, and press the Enter key to go to the next field. 
  6. Enter Time (HH:MM:SS) using military time and press the Enter key to save.

3) Set up Wi-Fi Connection

  1. Press the Menu button, enter the device password, and press the Enter key.
  2. Arrow down to Communication (3) and enter the password again.
  3. Arrow down to WiFi Parameters (3) and the device will search for available networks. Use the arrow button to list more networks if yours is unavailable.
  4. Select your network from the list. Use the arrow to search more pages of available networks.
  5. Enter the password for your connection. For alphanumeric passwords, press the corresponding number key and then press “ALPHA” to cycle between letters, numbers and case.
  6. Press “ENTER” to save password. Use “CANCEL” button to return to the idle screen and test connection.

4) Change the LAN type on the device to "DHCP"

When your device is shipped, it comes pre-loaded with the "Static IP" LAN type, and a default IP of This needs to be changed to "DHCP," so your router can assign an IP to the device. Follow the instructions in this article to change it from "Static IP" to "DHCP." Be sure to have the PAX connected to your WiFi connection and power cycle your device after making this change for it to take affect.

6) OPTIONAL: Change the LAN type on the device BACK to "Static IP"

Depending on your local network, you may need to set your PAX device to use either Static LAN Mode or DHCP LAN mode. We strongly recommend you use Static IP mode on your PAX device to prevent the IP address from changing unexpectedly and interrupting your payment processing. If your router assigns a new IP address to each device daily, weekly, monthly, etc., you will need to assign a static IP to the PAX.

If when trying to run a test transaction, you receive an error message:

  1. Check to make sure the IP address and port were entered properly.
  2. Ping the device from a computer.
  3. Make sure you have the correct certificate installed.
  4. Make sure you have the latest update installed.
  5. A bad DNS route could be cached by your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Some ISPs take 15 minutes or longer before the issue resolves itself. To resolve this issue, try using Google's DNS servers: and 

Default settings for the Bluefin PAX S300/D210:

  1. The default password for your PAX device is the current date, unless you decide to change it. It will be in this format MM/DD/YYYY. We strongly recommend you set your own password on each device.
  2. Depending on the version of the software application installed on your device, the Menu button may be disabled. This is because the PAX S300 is built to be a customer-facing device with limited accessibility. To enter the menu at any time, press the "FUNC" and "1" buttons at the same time.
