Bluefin Payment Devices - How to Solve for Missing IP Address

There may be times when the IP address is removed from a PAX payment device, rendering it unable to connect and take payments. There are a number of different causes, but here is how to resolve this issue that could be experienced after an update from Bluefin or PAX.

Clear the PAX Device Database on a PAX S300 (*make sure your device has not accepted any payments since it last batched)

  1. Access the menu by pressing the blue "FUNC" key and 1 at the same time
  2. Enter your device password (default is current date in MMDDYYYY format) and press the green enter key
  3. Press the down arrow
  4. Press 1. System Settings
  5. Press 4. Database
  6. Enter your device password (default is current date in MMDDYYYY format) and press the green enter key
  7. Press 1. Clear Database
  8. Press Yes
  9. Press 1. All

Power Cycle the device

After clearing the PAX device database, you need to power cycle your device. For the S300, unplug the power cable from the device, and then plug it back in.

Set DCHP (letting the router assign an IP address) on your PAX S300 payment terminal

You may need to let the router assign an IP address for your device, particularly when setting up the device for the first time, or an update occurs in which the IP is wiped.

  1. Press Menu or "FUNC" and "1" at the same time
  2. Enter your password (default password for Bluefin PAX is the current date in MMDDYYYY format)
  3. Scroll down 1 page and press "2. Communication"
  4. Enter your password again
  5. Scroll down 1 page and press "3. LAN Parameters"
  6. Press "1. Lan Type"
  7. Press "1. DHCP"
  8. Go back to the home screen by using the back button on the screen several times.
  9. Go back into Lan Type and verify DHCP is selected before proceeding.
  10. Go back to the home screen by using the back button on the screen several times.

You will need to power cycle (unplug and replug the power cable) the device for it to receive a new IP address from the router.

Set back to static IP address on your PAX payment terminal device

If the IP address assigned to your PAX device changes, you will need to update the IP address in your RepairQ Payment Device settings before the point of sale will be able to communicate with the device again. To prevent this from happening, you can setup the device to use a static IP. Here is how:

  1. Press Menu or "FUNC" and "1" at the same time
  2. Enter your password (default password is the current date in MMDDYYYY format)
  3. Scroll down 1 page and press "2. Communication"
  4. Enter your password again
  5. Scroll down 1 page and press "3. LAN Parameters"
  6. Press "1. Lan Type"
  7. Press "2. Static"
  8. Go back to the home screen by using the back button on the screen several times.
  9. Go back into Lan Type and verify DHCP is selected before proceeding.
  10. Go back to the home screen by using the back button on the screen several times.
